FEBRUARY

FEBRUARY ~ Derived from the Latin februo, "to purify through sacrifice," February was a time of atonement for the ancient Romans. (Ben Franklin's Almanac)

Today is the feast day of St. Brigit. Patron of poets, blacksmiths, healers, midwives, dairymaids, and newborns. Snow on her day was thought to indicate a wet spring, whereas sunshine prognosticated more snow until May. (I guess we are going to have a wet spring.)
(Ben Franklin's Almanac)

FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Hold fast to dreams,
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged
bird
That cannot fly.

~ Langston Hughes
